Meghann, St. Vinnies is negotiating with the city of CDA to lease the former library building on Harrison Avenue with the intention of buying it a bit down the road.
This is a great deal for the County. It will give them the room they need now and into the near future. I always thought they should end up with it.
Cis is right that Bonner County had to pay for the federal building they acquired. I’m not sure why this is different, unless it’s because of the provision for the historic preservation of the CDA building.
Benewah County had to bid against an Ireland-based speculator in order to get control of the Federal Building in St. Maries. Is the difference in treatment related to the amount of grease on the skids?
If it is anything like the (military) Base Retention And Closure process the federal property must first be offered up to the homeless community, and if they decide not to take it for what ever reason, then it is offered to the next political subdivision.

St Vincent’s never took the building they decided against it in December of 2008 because of the ongoing costs associated with running the building:
