I'm surprised that it passed - not because the residents don't want the new hospital but because it appears to me that they will be swimming upstream in order to make it a paying proposition. The Coeur d'Alene Tribe has applied for government grants to build a hospital in the Plummer area, which, if approved will be in direct competition to the St. Maries hospital as far as half of the county is concerned. Hard to compete against free money.
