Joker:
Mary Souza was a huge loser last night. For all of her breathless rantings about conspiracies and corruption, she failed — again — to get one of her candidates elected. On top of that her archnemesis, Mike Kennedy, won by five votes. It has to kill her that she came so close to knocking off the guy she hates with all her soul. Five votes. I believe this one will hurt her for a long time.
DFO: I don’t agree, Joker. Mary & OpenCDA.com broke even, at worst. Indeed, Mary had to swallow the bitter pill of Mike’s re-election and the clean sweep by the incumbents. But she and her gang came so close to pulling off two stunning upsets. That means her/their voices are resonating. Of course, their negativity resonated in this unsettling time. I rarely agree w/Mary’s message. But I do grudgingly admire her willingness to be out front (when so many others hide behind her skirts). However, she remains on the outside. Who knows if this was her last best chance to gain revenge for that 2005 election loss.
Question: Would you list Mary and OpenCDA.com among the winners or losers Tuesday?

I’ll repeat this from the winners/losers thread. Losers.
Take Gary Ingram’s thoughts about the election: “The citizens of CDA are too damn apathetic to care what’s good for them so the city council will tax and tax, spend and spend and elect and elect!” Then he called those that didn’t vote a bunch of free loaders.

Unfortunately I think partisanship in city elections was the big winner last night.

Wow, talk about bitter, Ingram I mean.
I bet he has at least 6 good friends that he knows didn’t vote last night. Had he convinced them to go to the polls and vote like he did, Brannon would be in.
Suck on that.
Sys called it yesterday, and was resoundingly proven right. It’s about GOTV.

Mary is like a bad rash - you’ll think she’s gone for good, but she’ll be back, more irritating than ever. This will not humble her - she will feel empowered that she was so close.

DFO - I think you said it best with the intro to this subject.

My very final note is that these election races are not over yet. There will undoubtedly be recounts. It seems quite odd that 126 more people voted in the Kennedy-Brannon race than voted in the Woody McEvers-Steve Adams race.—Mary Souza’s newslatter
Mary Souza’s paranoid delusions are the big winner; mental health is the big loser.

Mary and the OpenCdA crowd were losers last night.
In a heavily Republican community, the best efforts of the right-wing fringe (MMQC & OpenCdA) couldn’t persuade enough moderates to join them. They failed because their message, DFO, did not resonate with more moderate Republicans, who swung this election.
The longer term trends include Bill Salli’s dismissal in favor of Minnick. Moderate Dems and Repubs in the area seem to be leading the way on local elections. There is no real left-wing in this area. Moderate Repubs are the swing and the fringe failed to reach them.
