A Whole Lotta Health Care Bill

Question: How many congressmen do you think have read the health care proposal?

“…to announce an amendment to the health care bill.”—apparently he didn’t think it was big enough. Does he not do digital? Or does Congressman “you lie” simply like to make grandiose obtuse points to serve his own political machinations.

What gripes me about the size of the health care bill is that no one ever provides a basis of comparison. How many pages are in a bill to create a national park? How many pages in a defense appropriations bill or omnibus budget bill?

By this reasoning, we should conclude that the only books worth reading are the ones with fewer than 75 pages. Oops, there goes War and Peace. And Charles Dickens? Out of the question.

Question: How many congressmen do you think have read the health care proposal?

None. And if they did, they wouldn’t understand what they are actually reading. Its hard to read thru smoke and mirrors.

I was told here, last time I was reading one of the health care bills, that the congressmen don’t read the bills, they have ‘people’ who do that for them.

Too bad WE don’t have people doing that for us - oh aren’t our congressmen who are representing us supposed to be doing that? Where’s our ‘people’.

Reading it is one thing but understanding it is another. With the 3 day congressional work week, they all have time to read this turkey.

“aren’t our congressmen who are representing us supposed to be doing that?”—yup. Have their people call your people. No doubt its big given the scope, but just give me the executive summary and I’ll tell my congressman what I like and don’t like.

Nobody read the Patriot Act.. How long was it deliberated over, a week, two, tops?

These health care provisions appearing in the various bills have been around for months. There are thousands of lobbyists and hundreds and hundreds of both staffers and Congresscritters who have read the salient portions of these bills.

Spoke >> “These health care provisions appearing in the various bills have been around for months.”

Indeed, the language in various forms has been batted around for quite some time. It is how all the parts are assembled that makes the big difference. Until we see what a finished product looks like, and it is understood, the bill should continue to be evaluated. Everyone sees the parts of a jigsaw puzzle before it is put together also. Not until it is put together, do we really know the finished product. Understanding the parts is wholly different than seeing the finished product.
