President Barack Obama said Friday the entire nation is grieving for those slain at Fort Hood, and he urged people not to jump to conclusions while law enforcement officers investigate the shootings. Obama met Friday morning with FBI Director Robert Mueller and other federal leaders to get an update on what they’ve learned. Thirteen people were killed and 30 others injured in the shooting rampage at the Texas Army post on Thursday. The suspected shooter is an Army psychiatrist; his motive remains unclear. “We don’t know all the answers yet. And I would caution against jumping to conclusions until we have all the facts,” Obama said in a Rose Garden statement otherwise devoted to the economy/Breitbart. More here.
Question: Some Muslims are afraid that there will be a backlash against them as a result of this mass shooting. Is that a legitimate worry? (BTW, I purposely haven’t loaded this blog with info and photos from the horrific Fort Hood slaughter. I figure that you can get that information from TV or the Internet. Did I make the right call? Or do you want posts about upon which to comment?)

DFO, you are right in respect to not duplicating the media news here on this site.
In the case of these fanatic Muslims, it seems to get harder and harder to stay open-minded about this sect. When even U.S. born, citizen Muslims carry more loyalty to their nutkin “brothers” in the mideast and heretical religious leaders who advocate a religious war against us, it becomes difficult to accept them as equals.
The Muslim leaders in this country have failed to be true leaders of their flocks, to keep them from buying into these radical ideas. And their insistance on wearing those 12th century clothes doesn't help their image. Why can't they get this?

It could prove to be a very delicate issue for all concerned.,

Question: “Some Muslims are afraid that there will be a backlash against them as a result of this mass shooting”.
If this keeps happening there will be a backlash against them. If nothing more than to boycott their businesses.

Over the course of my life, I have seen countless news reports about wars in the Middle East, Islamic suicide bombers, terrorists, hijackers, beheadings and stonings of their own people, horrible treatment of women, etc. Meanwhile, the most prominent leaders of Islam, which are typically heads of state or the equivalent given the apparent inability of those people to separate religion from government, condemn us and others in the western world, egging on their people and stirring up victimology in order to distract the masses from their own catastrophic failures. I am really sick and tired of these goofballs.

O.M.G. I'm speechless by the xenophobic conclusions reached here by the actions of one man, a major in the United States Armed Forces. Especially by you Bondo who I considered to be much more intelligent than that.. Actually, I've seen some pretty horrific things from people who happen to be from the Middle East and also from Muslims. But I've also seen some very kind compassionate, tolerant things. Of course those things don't make the news. But in making stereotypes about them based upon race or religion, I'm going to try and stay positive and presume the best about the individual instead of condemning all of them for the actions of one man. Especially until the facts are in.
Just amazing. I'm sure there's people in the Middle East right now saying how it doesn't surprise them how violent these Americans and their military are with their gun culture and their warlike tendencies. They probably are thinking its poetic justice.

Wow. I'm with Sis on this. Some of you shock me with your lack of scope on this. Can we get a reality check here? Kage: Ban all businesses owned by Muslims? Really? Even for you that's wacky.
If a Christian psychopath were to open fire somewhere in the name of Jesus (think abortion clinics), would you suggest banning their businesses as well? Christianity doesn't exactly have a long history of peace, love and harmony. For the greater part of the last 2000 years or so, the way they terrorized Europe makes modern-day Muslim terrorists look like flower children.
It's absurd to put all 1.6 billion people who practice the religion of Islam in the same category because a tiny percentage of them that carry out acts of violence and lunacy.
The focus of this tragedy needs to be on the victims and their families and not on false delusions about the religion of the gunman.

That would be correct, OrangeTV. ALL religions carry a violent history. After all, take a look at much of the Old Testament (or Tanakh). God was all for killing off masses of people so the biblical writers informed us, because they weren't “true believers.” Humanity is in fact known for justifying violent behavior through religious belief. I'd want to know why this Islamic dude DID open fire. And if he had proved to be a “Christian” who simply flipped out and gunned people down; it wouldn't be any less tragic.
It is tragic period.

My 10-year-old son just told me he heard at school that the Ft. Hood killer “shot all those people for his god.”
I'm speechless :-(
