DFO @ Big 6-0 Wild Card — 11.20.09

I hit the Big 6-0 at about 1:30 this morning — and the sky didn’t seem to fall. I’ve received a number of condolences from friends, family, and co-workers. Betsy Russell tells me that 60 is the new 40. But I can’t remember as many nicks in the chassis when I was 40. Overall, I consider life very good. I have a wife of 34 years who still loves me in spite of my warts. Two kids (and a wonderful dotter-in-law) who are doing well. I live in a great community, with dedicated leaders, like Mayor Sandi Bloem, who shares my birthday. I attend a great, little local church. And I’m loved by a magnificent God Who isn’t finished working on me. ‘Tis all good. Now, for your Wild Card …

(Nov. 18) — An Ohio mom was sentenced to four years of probation for “sexting” naked photos of her daughter’s cheerleading rival to teachers and students at the girls’ high school.

What is it with some parents failure to grow up? Like the 40-something that wanted the New Moon star to sign her panties.

    And a little humor.
Check out the message in this hospital sign after two letters burnt out.

Happy Birthday DFO - from one who “turned” in April - I can attest that 60 is the new 40. Just don’t fall and break your hip - it’s all down hill from there.

  • Stickman on November 20 at 11:41 a.m.

Happy Birthday DFO. I don’t know if 60 is the new 40, I wish I could feel 40 again. At 62, I feel pretty good and it seems you do as well. Enjoy your day.

Im still at physio twice a week, and thats 2 hour sessions each time, (still have major problems) I spend the time with me physio mainly in the hospital gym, and there is a piece of equiment, beside many other things, that I HAVE to go on every visit… we call it ‘The Torture Chair’ it has weights and cogs and levers and counterbalance thingies…. it pushes my knees where they dont wanna go, and its stretches and tears the scar tissue and stretches me hamstrings…. I know I have to go on it each time and as soon as Nick me Physio says ‘Mel, The Chair’ I well up with tears cos I know how excruiatingly painful it is….

well LMFAO today….funny as hell at physio ….. I was sat on the torture chair being strapped in and as the cogs and weights and levels and levers were being adjusted, I stuck me little finger in a hole in one of the side cogs and IT GOT STUCK lmfao…. jebus mary muvver of whomever, no amount of butter out of Nicks sarnie or soap would budge it LOL… they had to… send for the maintenance bloke lmfao.. and he couldnt get it out cos it was beginning to swell by then…someone had to hold the weights to stop me finger being crushed, and Nick was laughting but concerned at the same time, and thought he would have to call the firebrigade LOL ….. eventually after about 15 minutes, with much pressure and pulling and hoping they wouldnt break me pinkie, it came out, all bent and swollen and as red as hell, all the patients in the gym was in fits of laughter, so, laughter is the best medicine….. they owe me one lol - and the pain in me pinkie stopped me thinking about the pain that was inflicted on the torture chair 5 mintues later :)

sounds like a typical day to me LOL

FYI, in the on going saga of election conspiracy, MMQC has been adamant that she’s (nor anyone else) was accusing Dan English of any wrong doing. That’s no longer the case. The most recent comment from ‘Appalled’ weaves together this concoction:

“Tote-a-Vote is a family business located in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Tote-a-Vote was founded by Dan English… Tote-a-Vote has done business with the Kootenai County Elections department and this servers email address is used for County business by his deputy clerk I imagine when they don’t want a record of it on the Counties server. There is some credibility for you!”

  • nic on November 20 at 1:15 p.m.

And more… the military voter that Spenser found (via google) to be a California resident… Spenser now claims he’s a “former” Post Falls resident. (cdapress comments section)

  • bondgirl on November 20 at 2:21 p.m.

Happy Birthday DFO- I hope that you enjoy many more to come! :)

  • Liz on November 20 at 2:39 p.m.

@Cabbage boy Wanted him to sign her panties. Wow.

I thought they only chucked ‘em at Tom Jones in Vegas. Or don’t they do that anymore???

  • Sam_Crawford on November 20 at 3:01 p.m.

@nic: I just read the thread on opencda regarding Tote-A-Vote.

They must be wearing tinfoil hats over there today.

  • Sisyphus on November 20 at 3:49 p.m.

Happy birthday Dave. I hope you sip some port in honor of this esteemed occasion.

  • danofthecommunity on November 20 at 4:04 p.m.

Yes I have a little company called Tote-a-Vote. And yes the county bought their voting booths through us…did they also reference the article in the SR at the time where we gave the profits to Project Safe Place which was on the ropes at the time. The director said that donation of $10,000 made the difference to keep the doors open and I believe they are still in operation.

And sure I have a personal email and have told my staff they can use it to reach me when I’m traveling or this fall when I was out on medical leave.

  • JeanC on November 20 at 4:13 p.m.

    Happy birthday Dave :)

  • DFO on November 20 at 4:14 p.m.

@ Sis re: ” I hope you sip some port in honor of this esteemed occasion.”

Port’s a bit too sweet for my taste. But a good Merlot or Zin is on the agenda tonight.

  • nic on November 20 at 4:15 p.m.

Go for the merlot. It’s good forthe heart.

  • nic on November 20 at 4:19 p.m.

@ DOTC… I’m not surprised that the relationship between your company and the county was/is legal. I find humor (and equal parts horror) in the openCDA crowd’s constant attempt to discredit this election.

I am however surpised to hear how you used the profits. I say good on you.

  • danofthecommunity on November 20 at 4:26 p.m.

Thanks, I guess maybe there really is something to that old saying, “no good deed goes unpunished.”

  • inlandempiregirl on November 20 at 4:35 p.m.

Happy Birthday and best wishes for another healthy year.

  • chatterbox on November 20 at 5:10 p.m.

Happy Birthday, Dave. Don’t dispair over birthdays. As Marmie, Jeanne and I can probably attest, any birthday is better than the alternative.

  • Truly on November 20 at 6:47 p.m.

    Happy 60 Davo!!

Then as we resume our programing –-

    This just in………

Has anyone noticed that myself, and Bob Salsbury and whatnot have become new grandparents in just the past few days???

So Dave your 60-and now we are all just now becoming new grandparents -what a ride??? I can’t explain how she makes me feel with a super description, but I am in total bliss when I hold her and I think back on when I had Sam “The Reporter” and “Mike The Football Man” were born and I try. This is just such a “new” experience”.

If you all remember a year or so ago I didn’t know if I was a gonna make another year and here I am holding the most precious gift!!!!

The Powers That Be Are A Smilin:)))))

    Happy Birthday Dave!

    Reflections Anyone?

  • JohnA on November 20 at 7:32 p.m.

Congrats, Truly, we just can’t have enough Silver Valley descendants, and happy birthday, Dave.

  • hereinidaho on November 20 at 7:43 p.m.

I know you will enjoy being 60 the entire year. And my Dave thinks 70 isn’t so bad either. Pretty soon you’ll be as old as us and you’ll be grateful every morning that you woke up.

  • Arpie on November 20 at 10:01 p.m.

Sandpoint Bulldogs just lost a heart breaker to Blackfoot in the State Football Championship game 29-26. My son and I watched a webcast on IdahoSports.com. A first. They did a nice job.

  • JIMMYMAC on November 21 at 1:28 a.m.

Congrats to Sandpoint on a great year!

    Happy belated, DFO!
