Members of the Legislature’s joint budget committee hear troubling budget news on Wednesday morning at their interim meeting in Boise. From left, they are Reps. Darrell Bolz, R-Caldwell, and Maxine Bell, R-Jerome; Sens. Dean Cameron, R-Rupert, Shawn Keough, R-Sandpoint, and Joyce Broadsword, R-Sagle; and Rep. George Eskridge, R-Dover. (Betsy Russell/SR) Question: Has Sen. Shawn Keough, R-Sandpoint, aged a day since taking office in the mid-1990s? She still looks like a kid to me.

Actually, I think she looks younger than ever. And, she may look like a kid, but she’s got the wisdom of someone far beyond her years.
One heckuva legislator, and it wouldn’t matter what side of the table she’s on.

Gotta agree. But if she looks younger it may be because most of thosew she is surrounded by are older than dirt.

I once walked into a meeting and someone in the group welcomed me by saying that they were glad that I was there because the group needed young people. I was 48 at the time.

@ Marianne; I thoroughly agree with your assessment of Shawn Keough. I remember meeting her during her first run for office — was it 1994? — and successfully encouraging the Editorial Board to endorse her over the Demo incumbent (was it Tim Tucker?) I told the board that the two most promising newby wannabes that I’d met during the campaign were Shawn and a fella named Jack Riggs. Shawn has gone on to become a major player in the Senate and Riggs, of course, served for a short while as Dirk Kempthorne’s lieutenant governor.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing about Maxine Bell.

I would love to see Shawn Keough as Lt. Governor or Governor someday.
