Illness Shuts Charter 6th Grade

From Principal Dan Nicklay to Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy parents: "Due to a high rate of absenteeism among our sixth grade, we have made the decision to cancel classes for the SIXTH GRADE ONLY for the remainder of the week.  Our hope is that the current wave of flu-like symptoms will pass through by the beginning of next week. We will continue to monitor the remaining population and make decisions that we believe are in the best interest of our student body.  At this time, absenteeism in grades 7-12 is only slightly higher than normal, but not at a level that appears to be cause for great concern." Question: What precautionary steps have you taken to avoid the current flu epidemic?

Due to a high rate of absenteeism among our sixth grade, we have made the decision to cancel classes for the SIXTH GRADE ONLY for the remainder of the week.  Our hope is that the current wave of flu-like symptoms will pass through by the beginning of next week.

We will continue to monitor the remaining population and make decisions that we believe are in the best interest of our student body.  At this time, absenteeism in grades 7-12 is only slightly higher than normal, but not at a level that appears to be cause for great concern.

As we have stated before, it is very important that we all do what we can to limit the spread of this illness.  Both at home and at school, it is imperative that we wash hands regularly, cover coughs and sneezes (with the elbow, rather than the hand),  and keep students home who exhibit flu symptoms—headache, sore throat, cough, congestion, and particularly fever.  It is better to miss a day of school as a precaution than to spread the flu to an entire class, or even the whole school population.

We will keep you apprised of any further developments.
