On the Web site, Reagan Republicans make this claim before endorsing the three challengers for Coeur d’Alene City Council: “With Democrats Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid spending billions on massive corporate baliouts, we cannot stand by as liberal Democratsand their allies on our Coeur d’Alene CityCouncil spend millions of our tax dollars on the Lake City Development Corporation to “bailout” big developers and pay outrageous salaries to unaccouble bureaucrats.” Then, the RR’s state as fact: “Jim Brannon is such a threat to the tax-and-spend liberals at city hall that, in a shocking act of dirty politics, they got him fired from his job as executive director of Habitat for Humanity.” Reagan Republican Web site here.
Question: Do you believe that Mayor Sandi Bloem’s administration is walking in tandem with Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid?

The RR’s are apparently walking on the wacky fringe!

Wow, they will push anything to get these hypocrits elected. When will these people ever get the clue that this is non-partisan.

You call that a website?

Here is an interesting little factoid about the Regan Repubs:
In keeping with the tradition set forth by Kathy Sims in the 2007 city council election, in which she broke campaign finance laws by failing to register as a PAC prior to spending money on an attack piece against incumbents (in support of Dan Gookin and Jim Brannon), the Ronald Reagan Republicans have also FAILED TO REGISTER with the city clerk’s office, yet they have printed and are distributing campaign literature in support of Jim Brannon and Dan Gookin and Steve Adams-IN VIOLATION OF THE LAW. Not to mention the piece attacks the current council with outright lies (that Jim Brannon knows to be lies). Is Kathy Sims a member of the Reagan Republicans?

I wish every voter in the city of CdA could visit the RR site. They’d see just how far off the rails these ideologues are, and how dangerous it would be for our community if these people get elected.

“Jim Brannon is such a threat to the tax-and-spend liberals at city hall that, in a shocking act of dirty politics, they got him fired from his job as executive director of Habitat for Humanity.”
Can they proove that? Because that is dangerously close to libel.

Before reading the Cd’A election discussion on this site, I had mixed feelings about whether political parties should get involved in non-partisan city elections. After following the discussion, I am now convinced that they should not. City elections should be about roads, police & fire, zoning, etc. Not partisan bickering which has little to nothing to do with municipal issues. If we want city elections to be partisan, then, fine - make the necessary changes in State law to allow municipal candidates to come out in the open and run as partisans. Otherwise, the parties should stay out, and focus on partisan races.
Before someone mentions the First Amendment - I am NOT saying parties, or partisan organizations, should be legally BARRED from participating in city elections, or that all non-partisan elections should be like judicial elections. I am just saying, as a matter of policy, partisan organizations should save their money, efforts, and focus for promoting their own candidates in partisan races.

I thought that too nic but which one of those “tax-and-spend liberals at city hall” is going to call them on it.
Phaedrus on October 26 at 10:52 a.m.
Can they proove that?
They can’t. Because it never happened. Jim Brannon knows that, but apparently has neither the backbone, nor the principles to call BS on his rabid supporters. C’mon, JIm, how about telling the truth about why you were let go? And about what you were doing when you were supposed to be at your campaign announcement press conference (because you were NOT at an emergency board meeting!)

Very well put ShoCon. These guys continue to be their own worst enemy by throwing a different kooky, credibility shattering thing into the mix nearly every day. While I’m sure there are a handful voters who buy their shtick (the some 6 folks that post on OpenCda most likely), with every completely silly thing they present to the public, their number of supporters shrinks. I have a hunch that after their people lose this election (which they will) we won’t be hearing from them for a little while…

The day after Jim Brannon was terminated, the Habitat for Humanity staff went out and bought a cake to celebrate.
