CC: Snowplows Free Us At Last!

The problem, as I see it, is that Queen Mary is unable, for whatever reasons, to manage the union plow and grader drivers. It is readily apparent sitting on her throne in City Hall, she is unable to ascertain the true conditions of the residential streets after a snow fall. One suggestion from several others is perhaps Queen Mary should get out of City Hall more often and simply follow one of the city plow drivers around, as always in the interest of keeping them honest/Community Comment. More here.

Question: Anyone live in a community that performs as badly as Spokane in removing snow from streets?

How about an alternative question: are the people who bitch and moan about how poor a job Spokane does removing snow willing to pay the increased taxes it would take in order to make snow removal faster and more efficient?

People are intolerably inpatient these days. Do you know how many street miles there are in the city of Spokane? Do you understand the logistics of snow removal?

One of the problems nowadays is that no one seems willing to just say “Forget it, it’s a snow day, we’ll stay home.” It use to be the case that when a big storm hit, people didn’t go to work and kids didn’t go to school, unless the parents were involved in essential services. It was just a part of life, and you dealt with it. You stayed home, you had canned goods to eat, and you enjoyed the time.

Nowadays, Dist 81 refuses to cancel school even when they should, and MY GOD I’VE GOT TO GET TO FRED MEYER RIGHT AWAY WHERE IS THE SNOWPLOW !!!!! ETC ETC.

    Ridiculous.

Spokane is the second biggest city in the state of Washington. Do *you* want to be put in charge of snow removal? Give them a break… the snowfall was heavy, and they’ve got wacko idiots hassling them every step of the way. What a thankless job…

Moscow does a good job of snow removal, but we’re a small town. That said, we didn’t have a snowplow on my street until yesterday. But I don’t live on an arterial, and it would have been stupid for them to have cleared my street before other streets. It’s called WINTER, and I DEAL WITH IT. If you can’t deal with, for god’s sake, move to Arizona.

I agree with MM - I’m getting tired of whiners who want government services and then whine about paying for it. AND, in the case of plowing, whine when it happens because they have to shovel out their driveways.

It snows in Spokane, deal with it. The plowing this year has been FAR better than 07-08 and 08-09.

I also agree with mm. Thanks.
