So what do you think of the new Political Wild Card today. Did it do its job isolating general political discussion to one thread, as advertised? I might run a poll next year featuring various names suggested for the Political Wild Card to see which you prefer. Meanwhile, you’re all welcome to Blogfest 2010, from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Steve Widmyer’s Fort Ground Grill in the historic Fortgrounds area near North Idaho College. You can see the poster made for Blogfest 2010 by Dogwalk Musings and read the particulars here. Now, I’ll replay the Wild Card and get outtahere. I’ll see you tomorrow afternoon …

*** File with “Small World” Stories ***
On Tuesday I was out on a service call looking at the A/V wiring in a couple’s motorhome. As I was coming back down the ladder from the roof (checking the dish, not important) I noticed a sticker for a local RV club. Knowing my grandmother belonged to the same club I asked them if they knew my grandmother. Yep, and had nothing but nice things to say.
As my late grandfather would have said “Who woulda thunk it?” that I would interact with someone from Pullman who knew/was friends with my grandmother from St. Maries?

Oh no! I was all prepared to embrace the concept of a political Wild Card but there’s a problem: if you use the latest comments feature (and of course you should) you still have to read all the political comments.
I tried to squint and scroll by really fast, but some words seeped into my brain anyway. Argh!
It was a nice thought.

BTW, Digger says he got 4 orders for his “I (heart) Mike Kennedy” T-shirts. But both of us are sworn to secrecy re: who ordered them.

If anyone would like a walking stick, I will be around my humble carport till just before Blogfest and right after it. They have always been free and many bloggers own one. I guess my goal eventually is to provide one for everyone, in the world that is. Hope to see most of you tomorrow, it’s always a pleasure to attend.

I’m wanting to take my son out hiking this spring/summer. He’s 5 (turning 6 in September) so I’m looking for fairly short hikes (1-2 miles) and reletively close to Cd’A (within a 1/2 hour).
Other than Tubbs Hill and English Point… any ideas?

Nic, Mineral Ridge?

Tubbs Hill is the best. There are many different trails, and some that go to the top, where the view is magnificent. Plus nic, you can bring your young son by ‘sticks and stones’ and he can pick out a great walking stick and all the shiny stones he would like. As he gets older, he can trade in that stick for one that might be more to his liking. It’s a great visit for a young person, try it sometime.

There’s also the Cougar Gulch area, right outside of town. Very nice walking area. I will always be partial to Tubbs Hill, as I walk it each day.

“you can bring your young son by ‘sticks and stones’ and he can pick out a great walking stick”
That is on my to-do list.

My 7 y/o has a fascination with walking sticks. Last year, he noticed that there were four nice sticks propped up against a trail head sign and he asked me why they were there. I told him it was an uncommon courtesy that people found great sticks and left them for the next folks. So, he took one, and found two more on our hike. He packed all three back to the trailhead sign and propped them up. He was very proud. As was I.

Northerner: Good story, and sticks have become a passion for me ever since my son gave me one many years ago. It broke, and I was without one, so I made my own and have continued that passion for many years now. I have given away at least 7 to 8 thousand walking sticks in the years I have been doing this. I do it now at least 6 hours every single day of the year. If your son would like to see what a real stickman does, bring him by sometime, it would be my pleasure.

Nic, Q’emlin Park in Post Falls has a great trail system too. We also like the centennial trail on the Washington side. The stretch between Sullivan and Barker road is awesome..

Had such a nice visit just a moment ago from Family Phil, or Idaho Dad as he is known now. I enjoy him and his family a lot, and if you come tomorrow, you will meet them as well.

I’ve been out of the HBO with lots of work travel as of late. Regretfully, I won’t be able to make Blogfest on Saturday. I have usher duties for a wedding that starts at dos. I will be teeing it up for the first 9 holes of the year at 10 however :) Actually got a lesson from local PGA pro/author Greg Rowley in his garage this morning.
I’m partially holding out that I might be able to make the last half hour or so but the bride and I are supposed to go straight to the father in laws b day celebration immediately afterward.
For those that I already know: Have a splendid time, i’d love to have a beer with ya!
For those I have yet to meet: Woulda loved to have met ya, next time for sure.
