(Gubernatorial candidate Rex) Rammell says he has invited about 100 Mormon men to a Jan.
19 meeting in Idaho Falls to discuss the “White Horse Prophecy,” which some attribute to Mormon Church founder Joseph Smith. The prophecy, which is not embraced by top Latter-day Saints Church officials, holds that the Constitution “will hang … by a single thread” and LDS leaders will step forward to preserve it. Late last month, the church issued a statement distancing itself from the prophecy and from Rammell, saying the prophecy has “not been substantiated by historical research.” The statement also said “we hope that the campaign practices of political candidates would not suggest that their candidacy is supported by or connected to the church”/Dan Popkey, Idaho Statesman. More here.
Question: What do you make of Rex Rammell’s apparently failed attempt to bring the LDS church into his run for Idaho governor?

Well, not much about the Morman Church’s belief system is or has “not been substantiated by historical research”

One word: desperate. I imagine he spent all his campaign funds on his traveling billboard.

Like one of the commenters said on the Statesman, he’s alienating the LDS church officials, LDS adherents, and the non-LDSers as well.
Great strategy!
However after he loses the primary and runs independent in the general, he may just be the spoiler that hands the election to Allred.
Great strategy!

Prophecy and politics should not mix. I don’t want public policy driven by some kind of unicorn fantasy.

WOW!
Compared to reading the idiot’s words, the creep factor is multiplied by 10 watching him deliver it.

First of all I don’t allow myself to be spoonfed by the MSM. Rammell, or any candidate, has every right to hold a talk to speak to anyone he would so choose. This is America still (at least for the time being). This meeting was not to be held on Church owned property. It was in a facility rented by Rammell’s campaign. It has not been an issue for Rammell to talk to any other group across Idaho but low-and-behold if he wishes to talk to people of his own faith the media goes wacko. Rammell stated that he does not represent the LDS Church. Rammell is not courting a Church endorsement. Rammell is campaigning to Idaho citizens of all faiths. If Rammell did not speak to LDS groups as well that would be discrimination. Just because an Idaho citizen is a member of the LDS Church does not mean they have no civic duty as a citizen of their state and speaking to them should not be off limits.
I, for one, and many people I know, are very impressed that finally there is a candidate with the guts to get up and fight. Finally a candidate who publicly acknowledges that our country is in severe trouble and the people better wake up and get off the couch and do their part as American citizens to help save it. And yes, he’s angry. I’m angry too. Everyone I know is angry. Given what is happening in our country today, if he wasn’t angry I wouldn’t be voting for him. I don’t want the same old politics as usual, they say they stand against something, tout their voting record but you don’t see them getting mad about anything. Rammell’s message needs to be heard by everyone, LDS and non-LDS.
And for those that are new to politics… if Rammell didn’t have the liberals and the status quo running scared they wouldn’t be attacking him. But as a person on the street I will tell you all this attacking is just making the people more angry. See ya at the polls in May!

It’s a good thing for those of us that wish to live as free people that he is out to do everything he can to save our country. That’s more than anyone else is doing. Everyone else is merely concerned with how to line their pockets at the expense of the tax payer or how to get more entitlements. Evil triumps when good people do nothing!

Joke is on you… a whole lot of people are listening and they are getting organized and they are talking to everyone else.

As expected.
I fail to see how a caged elk raiser for slaughter by fake “hunters” has the gravitas to “save the country”. There’s no way this nut is going to get the nod in the primary, absent some truly horrific scandal involving Otter.
I say again, I expect this megalomaniac Rammel to run as an indy in the general, and may siphon off enough right wing crazies from Otter that Democrat Allred gets elected.
