Gloria: A Canadian Faces Idaho Bias

A woman named Gloria writes to Huckleberries: "On January 8, 2010 I was standing in line at the post office in Hayden with some 5x7 envelopes mailing CD's to Canada and an old female noticed I was sending mail to Canada. She told me she lives in Leisure Park. She started in first of all by indicating that the US was going to go the way of Canada regarding health benefits and I proceded to tell her that I was a Canadian and had lived in the U.S. for 42 years. She then called me a "Communist" and a "Socialist" and told me "go back to Canada you Communist". I then asked her if she ever lived in Canada and she said "no" but that they are all Communists. I then told her not to speak to me and she again called me a Communist. There was a long line, out the door, and everyone looked at me like I was an outcast." More below.

Question: Have you heard anyone locally speaking ill re: Canadians?

I am not a Communist or a Socialist.  I am a legal "Resident Alien" and cannot believe that people are so ignorant when the Canadian border is only 90 miles away.

This is not the first time I have been chastised for being a Canadian living in the U.S.  I have children and grandchildren born and raised and "educated at Texas A&M university" so I remain in the U.S. as this person told me to go back to Canada.  I have just as much right to live here as she does.
