This Ohio Lottery Commission photo from Jan. 12 shows Deborah McDonald smiling during her appearance on the Ohio Lottery’s Cash Explosion. McDonald was killed after being struck by a car while she was walking on U.S. 6 in Margaretta Township on Tuesday. Earlier Tuesday, she’d received her winnings of $5,520. Story here. Well this certainly wasn’t what I wanted to read to start my day. I think I will go kick one of my dogs.

That is awful!
FHB don’t kick your dog. That’s worse :-(

Lottery winners are rarely as lucky as the State markets them to be.
It is a sad lie and a false promise.

Reminds me of an episode of “Lost.”
Sad.

Wasn’t this part of an Alannis Morisette song?

Well, she wasn’t exactly right on everything. McDonald is a woman and she died on the same day.
Still ironic though.

“Still ironic though.”
Not really. Dying the same day that you win the lottery is not ironic. Not much in that Alanis song is ironic (infact the only ironic thing in Alanis’s song is the title). Highly inconvenient - YES. Ironic - no.
Now if I said that Deborah McDonald won $5520 in the lottery and blew it all in a day - that would be ironic.

Eh. If we are going that route, I would say death, overall, is more than “highly inconvenient.”

I would think a more appropriate song would be “Old McDonald Bought the Farm’.
Or maybe not.

Ouch.

The cruel irony of life itself. Now the five grand goes to pay for the winner’s funeral. Whoopee. I think I’ll go and sulk now.

Now now, you have to grant Alanis a little “artistic license”. I mean, c’mon.
I see this situation as tragic. RIP Ms. McDonald.
