Summer Wild Card — 6.21.10

It might not look like it outside, but today is the first official day of summer. Which means it’s also my 35th wedding anniversary to my sweet bride and best friend, Mrs. O. We met at a church Valentine’s banquet in which I was the guest speaker. She and a friend were giggling about something as they came around a corner and we saw each other. I don’t know if it was love at first sight. But there definitely was a spark there. That’s still there. Jack Nicolson summed up my feelings about Mrs. O in a line from “As Good As It Gets,” when his character sez: “You make me want to be a better man.” Now, for your Wild Card …

Congrats on 35 years. May you be blessed with many more.

Congratulations Dave - though these announcements seem to get more and more surreal as I wonder how someone roughly ‘my age’ can be married 35 years when I still don’t feel 35 years old.

As a wild card… anyone in CDA know of someone looking to hire a bright, talented, second-year college student with a wonderful work ethic? My Amy will be a CDA resident as of July 1 and needs a job. She is a very hard worker… held down three jobs the summer between junior and senior year… and she possesses the three traits employers say they most want: shows up on time, doesn’t make excuses, doesn’t try to get out of work. ;0) She’s put out a ton of applications, but let me know if there’s something out there she might not be aware of.

Congratulations to you both. And many more.

Congrats DFO… BTW, the writing in that movie is my all time favorite — bar. none. The writing is so brilliant, I could listen to that movie with my eyes closed and be satisfied.

BTW, I have two favorite Nicolson lines from that movie, the one you mentioned, and the one that best sums up how I feel about my wife of 25 years … “You complete me.”

I’m reposting this to move it up the thread for Trish Gannon:

Way to go Mr. & Mrs. O. 35 years is something to be proud of.

My parents were also married on this day 53 years ago.

‘Course they separated on my 13th birthday.

OK, I’m getting into the research on the Coeur d’Alene Chicken Matter. And a friend told me Missoula had a grand debate on this as well. Someone made a documentary about it. I posted it on my website here:
