A couple of unfortunate news events underscores that summer is finally arriving in the Inland Northwest, the drowning of a canoeist on the Spokane River this morning and the sinking of a boat in Hayden Lake last evening. With all the activity and fun we have in the Coeur d'Alene area, the specter of tragedy or misfortune hangs in the background. A year ago, a neighbor on my block lost his teen daughter in that Jetski accident near the Boardwalk. I regularly think of her when I'm on the north shore.
