Avalanche Kills St. Maries Snowmobiler

Funeral services for the St. Maries man killed in an avalanche near Superior, Mont. over the weekend are Saturday. Twenty-nine year old T.J. Grieser was snowmobiling with a group of family and friends around 6 p.m. Saturday in a basin near Missoula Lake in the Lolo National Forest when the accident occurred. The area is located approximately 20 miles southwest of Superior on the Montana-Idaho border. “One member of the group was at the bottom of the basin (near Oregon Peak) and three members were on top of a ridge when they started coming down one at a time,” as stated in a press release from the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office. “The victim (Mr. Grieser) was the last of the three to come down the mountain and, according to witnesses at the bottom of the hill, the avalanche started as he was coming down the hill”/Chris D’Angelo, St. Maries Record-Gazette. RIP TJ.

TJ was a phenomenal human being. I am deeply saddened to hear of his family’s loss and pray they find comfort in the fond memories they have of him. I’ve pretty much known him all my life and he was a genuinely great kid for every second.

The Grieser/Beal family are wonderful people. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Ditto JimmyMac. TJ was a special guy.

TJ had a big, beautiful smile that lit up a room. He was truly a good guy. My prayers go out to his wife and parents. I can’t imagine the grief they are feeling now.

    RIP TJ.

It’s been a tough few months in our neck of the woods as young death surrounds us.

First, Jack Buell’s daughter-in-law died in an equestrian accident at 34. Then, our 40-year-old neighbor was killed in a car accident while working in North Dakota, just a few days after his father died at their place near ours on Cave Lake. Now, the snowmobiling accident and another great, young person is gone.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to each of these families as they deal with the sudden, and senseless, deaths of their young people.

You’re right JohnA…too many tragic young deaths lately. Your neighbor working in N Dakota was another one of those “good guys.” A true neighbor and friend to many. While I was buying condolence cards this week, the clerk said, “I’m sure getting tired of selling these.” These deaths have certainly touched our entire community.
