Wild Card/Thursday — 10.21.10

Our Palouse regular Moscow Minidoka is suffering an overdose of dirty politics this fall and wishing that the silly season was over. I enjoy this time of the year when nerves are raw and the trolls are out in force. In less than two weeks, the yard signs will come down, the successful pols will run sugar sweet ads thanking voters for their support, and the trolls will crawl back under their rocks. Then, things will be quiet for a coupla months before the Idaho Legislature begins again — and we will express outrage at the crazier things that are politicians conjure. All fun. Now, for your Wild Card …

That is the problem DFO, I’m afraid the trolls will be elected into office again, not go under their rocks. I too am on overload from the ads, the yard signs and don’t want to hear another lie coming out of a politicians mouth.
This is a hard time of year too for Viet Nam Vets, they came back to the lies and the lies are still going on with politicians. No one to trust.

    Sullivan’s quote of the day:

“Some people say I’m extreme, but they said the John Birch Society was extreme, too,” - Kelly Khuri, founder, Clark County Tea Party Patriots. And William F Buckley rolls in his grave.

We just got our second LDS mission call in our household in four weeks. Our middle child is going to Romania on January 12th!

Seems Republicans in general have trouble understanding copyrights and trademarks.

All the political gobbledegook gets on my nerves after a while. On a more positive note, if there’s been a nicer autumn here in the last 10 or 15 years, I don’t recall it. The lake is especially wonderful this time of year.

Go Ducks (of Oregon)! See you next Wednesday, Ollie.

  • almostinnocentbystander on October 21 at 4:58 p.m.

Oh c’mon Phaedrus, Joe Biden plagarized an entire guys’ life - who was the English politician? His name escapes me … Neil Kinnock perhaps? You’re trying to make this a Republican thing, really?

I just got a press release from Marc Stewart, the PRmeister for the Coeur d’Alene Indian Tribe re: a debate the tribe has scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Wellness center in Plummer. Seems the tribe has invited both Jai Nelson and write-in candidate Rick Currie to debate during one of the several forums set up for District 2 legislative and commission candidates. It might be worth a trip to Plummer to see that one. I’ll keep you informed re: whether both Nelson & Currie agree to debate down on the rez.

I hope the Left Bank doesn’t hate me, but … I get a kick out of AlmostInnocentBystanders right-wing spunk.

I put on some tinfoil, and realized that Karl Rove is controlling space and time to set up a World Series between George Bush’s old team and the one from Nancy Pelosi’s city. If the Rangers end up closing out the Giants in Game 5 on November 1st (the day before the election), my conspiracy theory will be confirmed!

  • nic on October 21 at 5:28 p.m.

    @ DFO re: almostinnocentbystander

Not that I speak for the “left bank,” but I appreciate aib’s comments. It’s refreshing to have a level-headed conservative around here. As opposed to Kage’s English-as-a-second-language syntax and disingenuous punctuations, CB’s bitter sniping, hmo’s predictability, and GDR’s crazy guano postings from the lunacy fringe… we need more people like almostinnocentbystander contributing to what you do here.

I’m rather surprised there doesn’t seem to be any discussion regarding Juan Williams getting canned by NPR. Shameful on their part, imo. Even Whoopie thinks they are wrong on this one. They have simply become a government funded liberal radical organization, to a fault.

  • Kage_Mann on October 21 at 5:49 p.m.

Nic, at least this poster knows how to spell. Just sayin’ ;-)

  • nic on October 21 at 6:43 p.m.

Can you point out any spelling errors in that last comment, Kage?

    Didn’t think so.

  • DaveT3000 on October 21 at 7:27 p.m.

You misspelled “opposed” (wrong # of p’s)

  • irishman on October 21 at 7:43 p.m.

The Juan Williams firing is perplexing. I’m generally liberal in thought and a firm supporter of public radio and television. That he didn’t get to state his case to his employer is sad in my view. Like it or not, we all have prejudices. It would be a better place if we didn’t but we’re not there yet.

  • nic on October 21 at 8:08 p.m.

Nice try, Jim… but you fail. I spelled opposed with two p’s just like you… and the dictionary: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/oppose

Any other erroneous critiques you’d like to supply?

  • richard on October 21 at 10:39 p.m.

Have you ever seen Phaedrus do anything else? I don’t come to this blog often, but whenever I do, I note that he/she and Sis never have anything else to say.

  • Bubblehead on October 22 at 6:32 a.m.

Here’s a Republican Congressional candidate saying that the violent overthrow of the government is “on the table” if his side doesn’t win the election: http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/latestnews/stories/102210dnmetbroden.1b2338185.html

I’d be interested in knowing if the various Idaho Republicans here believe that the 2nd Amendment gives them the right to shoot Soldiers and law enforcement officers while overthrowing the government. When I went to a 2nd Amendment town hall meeting held by Rep. Minnick last year, a lot of the people there sure seemed like they thought it did.

  • moscow_minidoka on October 22 at 8:54 a.m.

hmoff writ: “They have simply become a government funded liberal radical organization, to a fault.”

An absolutely ridiculous comment which displays your complete and utter ignorance.
