Andersons Sell Franklin’s Hoagies

After almost 24 years in business near the corner of 4th & Garden/CdA, Larry & Pauline Anderson have closed their popular breakfast/lunch spot, Franklin’s Hoagies. I used to be a fairly regular customer when the Spokesman-Review was located across the alley to the north. In fact, I used to give colleagues a $5 gift certificate to Franklin’s Hoagies for every five Huckleberries tips they provided. It worked out pretty well. I quit hanging out at Franklin’s Hoagies after the Spokesman-Review built its current Coeur d’Alene office on Northwest Boulevard. But I still miss the banter between Larry & Pauline — and the tremendous breakfasts they provided. You can read about the sale here. H/T: Get Out! North Idaho Facebook And: Old GONI review here.

Question: Anyone want to provide a fond memory of Franklin’s Hoagies? Or a fond farewell to the Andersons?

I have no memories, but I think you owe me a hoagie or two.

I wasn’t a regular but the times I was there the food and the conversation were great. Hopefully the new owners will be able to carry on the character of the place. Best regards to Larry and Pauline in their retirement!

@ Arpie re: “but I think you owe me a hoagie or two.”

Ah, did I mention that I quit providing Hoagie certificates in the 1990s?

It has always been a great place and a meeting place for many regulars. I used to go there at least twice a week for a few years and loved their hoagie sandwiches and chili. Since I gave up meat many years ago, I stopped going there, but it has always been a Cd’A institution. They will be missed and I hope them the best.

My regular Monday & Friday morning (7:00) breakfast spot for years.
I understand that the new owners will maintain nearly the same operations as Larry & Pauline who will be around for the transition.

BTW, my first breakfast at the newly opened Sherman Station was very, very good. Great looking menu items.

@ Don Sausser re: Sherman Station. Is the new eatery located in the old Rustler’s Roost building?

Larry is dealing with some health issues and has been on chemo and radiation, from what I understand. I know we all wish him well.

Suite, i sort of suspected something like that and i’m sorry to hear it. I always thoroughly enjoyed my lunches in there. They were, and are, very nice people.

I wasn’t a regular by any means but always enjoyed Frankin’s. Watching and listening to the Anderson’s was always a treat. My wife and I saw them out at the Clark House this summer and both looked to be in good health. I wish them the best and a speedy recovery to Larry. They are very pleasant folks.

I ate at Franklins. I think you’ve gotta figure that if a restaurant, especially a family-owned one can keep going for a quarter of a century, they had to be doing something right. And the Hoagies were grrrrreat!

Scrambled eggs with cream cheese and chives and a croissant = Heaven!
    Best wishes to them both!
