Some Moms, Kids Embrace School Bells

Several mothers among my Facebook friends told of their kids’ excitement today, the first day of school, including Katrina, who wrote: “Just dropped a so-excited-he’s-vibrating second grader and a so-over-it sixth grader off at their classrooms for the first day of school. It makes me want to buy myself a new Trapper Keeper and a pencil box with fifty sharpened #2 pencils inside.” Another mom posted that her daughter counted down the minutes this morning — literally — until they were out the door. Christa Hazel, meanwhile, posts: “Why, God, why do children have to go back to school so soon? Because you are a merciful God, that’s why.” (AP file photo for illustrative purposes: Jim Michaud, Journal Inquirer of Connecticutt)

Question: How about you and your household? Was the return to school this morning something that you looked forward to? Or something that you lamented

Truth: I was so excited for my teens to go back to school, I hardly slept. The fact that they returned on deadline day was a bonus!
Truth: I felt blue and moped around all day. This has NEVER happened to me on a back-to-school-day. No video games blaring. No cell phones buzzing. No yelling at boys to PIPE DOWN ALREADY.
    I actually missed them.
I hope I’m not coming down with something.

Truth: I literally rolled my eyes at all the moms I know who Facebooked about being teary eyed because their babies are going to school. Mainly because these are also the moms who hire babysitters at the drop of a hat and never seem to have separation anxiety at those times.

Truth: I had a hard time sleeping last night too. So stinkin’ excited that summer is over.

Truth: It was nice to not have to entertain anyone but myself today. The house was quiet. But I was too excited to let down and relax. Now I have to fit in all the errands that I’ve put off during the summer because kidlets were attached to me.

Truth: Looking forward to Thanksgiving vacation so the kidlets and I can play.

Truth: I should have gotten out of the house and paid a visit Idaho :-)
