I'm already replacing tomato plants that couldn't withstand the constant rain of May. Mebbe I'll wait until this weekend to see if predicted 70-80 degree temperatures will stay around for a bit. The rest of the warm-weather veggies — bell peppers, eggplants, zucchini, yellow squash, cucumbers — seem to be doing OK. But the tomatoes have gone south. Still, the yard is pretty nice already. And the late blooming lilacs & irises add a nice touch as we move into June. Now for your Wild Card …

Sunny’s tomato plants have been weathering the weather pretty well, DFO… you should pick some up before she sells out… she is likely to come close to selling out at the next farmers market on Saturday.

I’ve noticed that few people use the Wild Card any more. Has it become passe?

Anyone in north Idaho who tries to raise tomatoes without a greenhouse or other substantial “heat retainers” is a real optimist. I quite trying years ago, and I thought I had a good spot, right against the house facing due south. Got a small crop one year out of six.

I have one plant left that needs an owner. I’ll bring it down tomorrow, with a wall-O-water to give it warmth.

DFO. No, it isn’t passe. I use it all the time, or when the mood strikes I should say. Maybe because there is very little political stuff on there anymore, which is nice.

The wild card is my favorite thread on the entire site. Although it is often infected, as well, it is usually the best place to find some light humor or informative information as opposed to the normal ‘Idahoans are racist, ignorant, uncaring, uneducated, simpleminded thugs’ threads or the us vs. them threads.

We plant our tomatoes in Earth Boxes. They seem to do quite well. The soil stays warm, the roots love it and the plants thrive.

Get your tomatoes at Judy’s Greenhouse -they do fine if protected from wind and covered at night-mine are doing great.

Well living at 3600’ just outside of Missoula we usually get lots of tomatoes on that southern exposure next to the house even if they come in a tad late in the fall (usually about 80% green come the first frostl) but then a couple of recipes for an excellent refrigerated green tomato jam and a fair green tomato salsa usually take care of the bulk of them.
DFO glad your late blooming lilacs are doing well - our deep purple regulars are just starting to bud and our many Saskatoons are just blooming.

I usually plant one or two tomato plants each year in containers on my deck. I stick to “cherry” tomatoes because I can grab a few heading out to the shop and they taste great. These small tomatoes are also the only ones I can get to ripen outside during the season.

Well, this will be political. Days start getting shorter in three weeks and the city council, refuses to acknowledge the fact by promoting summer.

DFO, my tomato plants are as high as my neck and have 47 blossoms today.
Oh, they are inside the living room by the windows :)

Well, I’ll jump in with both feet and say I think the new downtown artwork is atrocious. I feel like I need a tetanus shot just looking at it.
