Just a couple of dozen people showed up for a tea party rally outside the Montana Capitol in which participants were encouraged to bring their guns. The Lewis & Clark's Conservative Tea Party group received permission to bring unloaded and secured weapons onto Capitol grounds Friday, an area where firearms are usually prohibited. Similar gun rallies have taken place on Capitol grounds in years past but this year's rally was sparsely attended in comparison/Associated Press. More here.
Question: Why are the Tea Party and some legislators in Montana and Idaho pushing for more people to carry guns, including students on college campuses?

I know people have the right to carry guns. I just don’t understand the need to be carrying them everywhere. I thought we only did that in the frontier days. So you can carry a gun, am I supposed to be impressed? I admit I have mixed feelings on guns due to personal family reasons, but I still don’t get the whole gun mentality.

I have never understood the purpose of carrying an unloaded gun. I have several firearms. I carry everywhere within the law. I don’t see the point of making a spectacle out of it. On this side of the world, the only time I have ever even removed one of them from it’s holster is to dispatch a wounded deer or to kill a couple targets at the range.
