FYI, percentages are running under the right sidebar…

  • DuaneRasmussen on November 08 at 9:31 p.m.

Ron Lahr just walked into Fedora’s to the sound of rousing applause! Phaedrus appears not to be here.

  • hhuseland on November 08 at 9:55 p.m.

Shucks. I would have voted for Amber, if I had a residence in CDA.

  • DuaneRasmussen on November 08 at 9:57 p.m.

Amber appears to be splitting the vote.

  • TomHamilton on November 08 at 10:05 p.m.

    Wow! Great night so far!

  • otisgexperience on November 08 at 10:09 p.m.

I guess the seat #3 candidates should have read the book, “How to Win Elections… For Dummies”.

  • DFO on November 08 at 10:09 p.m.

Looks like Jeff Ward & Ron Lahr have become the Kootenai County kingmakers …

  • DuaneRasmussen on November 08 at 10:12 p.m.

Tom, you should make an appearance at Fedora’s!

  • Spudbob on November 08 at 10:12 p.m.

DFO: Just how many precincts are there in CdA?

  • Neptune on November 08 at 10:14 p.m.

Looks like the “Geezer” still got’s it!

  • Arsaken on November 08 at 10:15 p.m.

Bad night for Cd’A. The Republican Party has been hijacked, and now my town has been too.

  • DFO on November 08 at 10:17 p.m.

@ SpudBob … dunno exactly how many precincts in cda … but I do know that absentees haven’t been counted yet.

  • lovetohateme on November 08 at 10:19 p.m.

I can’t say I’m too unhappy about the results so far.

  • DuaneRasmussen on November 08 at 10:19 p.m.

Tom Hamilton just arrived at Fedora’s to the sound of raucous applause.

I’m really looking forward to reading about all of the taxpayer-funded advisory votes that will be taking place under the new City Council in Coeur d’Alene. I’m pretty sure I read Mr. Gookin wanted to basically put everything in front of voters. I’ve been unclear why that would make him interested in a council position, since that requires you to lead, but it’s pretty clear voters hate spending money so they should be cool with all the costs of elections that are advisory in nature only for the foreseeable future.

  • hhuseland on November 08 at 10:25 p.m.

Sorry Duane. I just love to suport a friendly newcomer that doesn’t owe anything to anybody. Bersides, she’s cute.

  • hhuseland on November 08 at 10:27 p.m.

To show you how long it has been since I hung out in CDA, I haven’t a clue as to where Fedora’s is.

  • lovetohateme on November 08 at 10:30 p.m.

I believe it’s in tiny “strip mall” area on Kathleen, just west of the Kathleen/Ramsey intersection… If I’m thinking of the right place. I’ve never been there.

  • yabetcha on November 08 at 10:35 p.m.

The game has changed. Watch for Open Meeting Law violations as the remaining council and operative staff hold secret meetings to figure out their best strategy to protect their eroding power in this town.

  • Kage_Mann on November 08 at 10:36 p.m.

It’s just past the car wash on Kathleen and across from Fairway gas station.

    Paranoid much?

This is exactly the type of black/white “we’re righteous, they’re evil” that Ms. Wood properly attributed to the UNReagan Republicans.

    Par usual.

  • DuaneRasmussen on November 08 at 11:05 p.m.

Fedora’s is on Kathleen, West of Ramsey, across the street (south) from Conoco gas station.

I think the CDA Press has called the race for Gookin.

  • DFO on November 08 at 11:14 p.m.

@ Yabetcha re: “The game has changed. Watch for Open Meeting Law violations as the remaining council and operative staff hold secret meetings to figure out their best strategy to protect their eroding power in this town.”

Still belching out your conspiracy nonsense, even in victory. Your post above defines ungracious winner.

  • Arsaken on November 08 at 11:15 p.m.

The truly astonishing thing about tonight is how a vocal minority of zealots and egotists have convinced enough people that backwards is forwards. In a supposedly nonpartisan race, at that.

  • greenlibertarian on November 08 at 11:43 p.m.

    -DFO

    Precisely.

Again, it’s the “your side is evil and always cheats vs. our side is ALWAYS right beyond any shadow of a doubt and always plays fair” erroneous and false dichotomy.

Followed with a “winning isn’t everything, it’s the ONLY thing “Woo Hoo!!! from Tom Hamilton.

Let us notice the contrast in style:

Let me just say first of all, this has been, well, there’s never been a more humbling moment in my life, not only humbled by the extent of what has happened tonight. Even if it had been the cliffhanger that all of us, I think, were expecting, it would have been the same way. But just to have had the support of the people of this country. I consider the trust you have placed in me sacred and I give you my sacred oath that I will do my utmost to justify your faith.

Earlier this evening, I spoke on the phone with President Carter. The president pledged the utmost in cooperation in the transition that will take place in these coming months. I offered him my own cooperation. He graciously said that he wanted this to be the…As I say, the president was most gracious about this.

Nauseating. Can’t wait to get out of this town, really.

  • TomHamilton on November 08 at 11:54 p.m.

@GL - Dan Gookin is a good friend of mine and he has poured his heart and soul into his community and this election. It was a long hard fought victory and a little celebration is most certainly in order. I’m not sure why you would think any one would want to run and not want to win…doesn’t make sense.

  • Arsaken on November 09 at 12:05 a.m.

    @greenlibertarian

Indeed. Reagan, being a good president as well as man, is being poorly represented.

  • DuaneRasmussen on November 09 at 12:07 a.m.

    Tom,

Don’t pay any attention to GL. He has a lot of nerve lecturing anyone on anything when you consider his past comments on this blog.

    Duane

  • DFO on November 09 at 12:20 a.m.

Dan Gookin has the potential to be a good council member … I’m not as optimistic about Steve Adams. But it’ll be interesting to watch council meetings in the new year. Mayor Bloem still has a 4-2 majority on the council (including Ron Edinger on topics that are not about McEuen Field). Of course, with the success of Reagan Republican candidates this year, it isn’t hard to imagine that they’ll be zeroing in on the council member they most love to hate in 2013: Mike Kennedy.

    Duane

    Points, laughs.

Rasmussen doesn’t even follow the WA State Code of Conduct for Attorneys so admitted to the Bar, and thinks SCOTUS decisions should be ignored.

Ronald Reagan would spit on the likes of Rasmussen and Tom Hamilton.

  • greenlibertarian on November 09 at 1:11 a.m.

It was a long hard fought victory and a little celebration is most certainly in order.
-Tom (the UN is trying to overtake the US) Hamilton.

Just like some Palestinians celebrated the attack on 9/11.

Do you have any idea what Gookin has utterly, wrongfully accused people of?

But he cleaned up well, and did he get the stomach stapling and a lifetime gift of haircuts?

At long last Sir, have you no shame?

  • stebbijo on November 09 at 4:59 a.m.

    … doing the happy dance!

  • Dennis on November 09 at 5:59 a.m.

A sad day for CDA. Welcome to the dark ages.

  • CaptainAmerica on November 09 at 6:42 a.m.

Wow! Dan Gookin crushed Sayler by about a 1000 votes…OUCH! A complete repudiation of the CdA Establishment and what about Sayler? He’s been like the Mary Lou Reed of the Dems…lives walking distance to McEuen…Even his own trailerhood wouldn’t support him.

I guess he will permantly retire.

Dan will be a great leader and I think I will actually tune into the televised meetings.

  • ShoshoneConservative on November 09 at 8:31 a.m.

I’m not that surprised at the results, so much as the margins.

  • TomHamilton on November 09 at 9:34 a.m.

The outcome is no surprise, but I agree the margins are noteworthy. I didn’t expect that at all especially in the 5 way race where Dan Gookin still managed to garner substantially more than 50%. There is most certainly a message in these results.

  • markr on November 09 at 9:41 a.m.

    noteworthy margin, yes.
    mandate, no.
Consider it one at your peril.

  • TomHamilton on November 09 at 9:57 a.m.

@markr - if Sayler had won you’d sing a different song re: mandate. It’s enough for me that they won.

  • markr on November 09 at 1:13 p.m.

    @TomHamilton - actually, I wouldn’t. Others might, I agree.

Truth be told, I have high hopes for Mr. Gookin. I hope he’ll do the job as well (or better!) as he’s fought the battle to get there. (I have the same hope for you, as well! :)
