Slut Walk Protests Societal Views

Protesters hold carnations in their mouths in Bucharest, Romania, today, during the Romanian version of the Slut Walk march. The Slut Walk, a protest against harassment of women initiated by the outfits they wear or their behavior in public, was the first of it's kind in Romania, a country where it is still quite widely believed that sexual aggression victims bear at least some responsibility for being targeted.(AP Photo/Vadim Ghirda)

Question: What do you think of the concept of Slut Walk?

Its imperative when society creates social mores to which women adhere that they are not giving up some basic human rights. Here’s a very interesting segment on facebook on just how big this issue is.

Its never OK to force yourself on a woman, no matter how hot she is.

Interesting concept-I like it. Sexual assault isn’t and has never been about sex; it’s all about power.

Thanks for the interesting link, Sis. The film, MissRepresentation, seems like it would be interesting. Must’ve been strange making the editorial and editing decisions about all those fast cuts of titillation from current media.

As they say, we are sending dangerous messages to our children. And ramping up the intensity every day, trying to break through what resistance we may find.

I’m reminded of the piece by Jerry Mander that I read a long time ago in Whole Earth Review, and that he turned into a book: Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television. It didn’t happen, obviously. There’s just too much money to be made.

A woman should never have her personal rights violated. Period. End of story.

She should wear what she wants - barely nothing or full burqua.

And it is quite possible that there is truly no such thing as a slut - or a woman who sleeps with a lot of people because that is defined differently for everyone.

HOWEVER - I think it would be swell if my fellow females would put their boobs and half their butt away into clothing. Just because you can let it all out, doesn’t mean you should. A little mystery can be sexy.

How about introducing the world to a smile and personality instead of sex organs and body parts?
