Newton: Coeur d’Alene Will Survive

Helen Newton, former Sandpoint city clerk and later council member: "It was about 1985 when our excellent Sandpoint mayor Ron Chaney was the subject of a recall petition over the city council’s approval of annexing property into the city. All residents in the subject area were on city water and they NEEDED to be connected to a sewer line. It was very stressful on our mayor but he withstood the experience with grace while continuing to manage the affiars of the city. He actually earned MORE votes in the recall than he won when he was initially elected. It was a solid vote of confidence! The system works. Have faith in it. Your city will survive."

Question: Have you ever lived in a city with a recall attempt? What happened?
