In Respect Of Our Anthem

A musician from Spokane's Ryan Larsen Band stands with hat over heart as the National Anthem is played at the Handshake Productions free Tuesday concert at Don Johnston's Sherman Park Square in downtown Coeur d'Alene. (Duane Rasmussen photo for Huckleberries Online)

This photo reminds me of an incident that occurred last Saturday at Precision Tire on Government Way. I was waiting for employees to install a new set of tires on my 4Runner when another man sat down nearby in the shop's waiting area. An awards ceremony for an American gold medalist was being aired on the wall television. At the start of the National Anthem, the other man stood up and put his hand over his heart. He remained that way throughout the ceremony. I was talking on the phone. So the situation wasn't as awkward as it could have been. I respect our flag and patriotism -- and all. But I don't stand up every time I hear the national anthem on television.

Question: What you have joined the man in standing up for the National Anthem on TV?
