I still haven't decided how much of the Super Bowl I'm going to watch Sunday. I can't think of a way I'd be less excited about the two Eastern teams playing. New England? New York? C'mon. Madonna at halftme. Meh. Mebbe the E*Trade baby will provide a few chuckles along the way. Oh well, the sun will be out this weekend. Might be a good time to take a long bike ride instead. Here's your Weekend Wild Card …

Doesn’t appear that Foster’s move to the Otter Luna education campaign was a very strategic one.

Super Bowl Sunday is the BEST time to shop cuz no crowd anywhere.
Stickman on February 04 at 9:20 a.m.
It’s also a good time to go for a walk, as it’s pretty quiet.
JohnA on February 04 at 11:33 a.m.
DFO, it is absolutely required that every male in the U.S. (and most women) watch the Super Bowl. It is very un-American to do anything else. Even our Great Dane will perch on the sofa and view the thing (he especially likes any commercial featuring dogs.)
Now, if the game gets out of hand an occasional glance at the screen may suffice (unless it is a Bud commercial, in which case full attention is demanded) but otherwise in a tight contest full viewership is the order of the day.
I think it may even be the law of the land, but I’m not entirely sure.

@JohnA
If your dog can’t deal with the violence (or boredom) turn to the
Puppy Bowl for a while. I think it’s on the Animal Channel. There is play by play reporting and a color commentator. And I hear the Kitties will perform the half time show.
JohnA on February 04 at 2:38 p.m.
Kamm, at 38” high at the back and 205 pounds (he’s still a puppy himself), nothing bothers this dog. :)
And, in true alpha male tradition, if we dared to turn from the football game he’d bark until we turned it back. Well trained, this one.
Escapee on February 04 at 11:16 p.m.
I’ll watch. Why? Because it’s On. Might as well see the Super Bowl instead of the reruns I normally watch. Plus, if I didn’t watch it, I’d probably lose my Man-Card. Go, Fight, Win! (I’m really trying to put my heart into this…)
duroc on February 05 at 9:00 a.m.
I’m not watching any of the Super Bowl today. Not one minute. I’m catching up on some work this morning, then I’m going to spend this gloriously sunny Sunday outside, where I belong. There’s still six to eight inches of frozen snow on top of the lawn, but that just means I won’t need to go quite so far up the ladder to prune my fruit trees and get the rest of the Christmas lights taken down. The kids want to play with what’s left of their snow fort, and my wife wants to work on tidying up the garage.
It’s a beautiful day to do anything, especially not watch the Super Bowl.
@JohnA: Sorry to break the regulations and act in an “UnAmerican” way, but sunshine beats the television in my house any day of the week. (Of course, it helps that we don’t actually have any broadcast, cable, or satellite TV service in our home).

Strongly agree with duroc. You cannot imagine the immensity of the hoot I do not give.
Stickman on February 05 at 10:41 a.m.
I have to agree with duroc as well, and with Sis, as I have the same immensity of the hoot I do not give.

I almost forgot, Happy Birthday yesterday Cindy. Hopefully blogfest is in your plans in a couple of weeks.

On another topic I understand Pachyderm was lively on Friday. I hear that Jeff Ward was the speaker and he declared that Deanna Goodlander and I are Rhino’s. We are both office holders in non-partisian positions so his comments seem silly.
You may remember I called upon Jeff a few months ago to correct a false statement he made about me in his newsletter. He claimed I attempted to connect the RR’s to the Aryan’s and was behind the PO Box comments. Wrong person but that did not impress Jeff. He decided I am worthy of his criticism anyway and decided not to make any corrections.
Anyway…I have always been clear I am a moderate who chooses to work with all elected officials (Democrats too! Oh My!) and constituents, and will not feed from his purity trough. What a complete waste of valuable time.
Guess what Jeff? Working together means you represent all Idahoan’s and you are able to move forward with solid input on important issues.
So why did Jeff go after Deanna? She always goes to the meetings, and has been very active in the local party. Yet he makes her a target of ridicule. These kind of shenanigans become the issue rather than what we all care about. Which are Idaho economy, education, jobs, debt, health care, our children’s future etc.
Note to self- find out where the new PAC of Reasonable Republicans’ are meeting and give them my full support.
JohnA on February 05 at 11:17 a.m.
Well said, Christie.
Having worked with public officials for thirty years I know the toughest part of running for and holding office is having to deal
with falsehoods and innuendos that are cast upon you. It is especially tough, I believe, when the comments are personal in nature.
I remember when I was Spirit Lake’s city administrator and vicious falsehoods were circulated concerning my mayor, Bill Moe. It was painful to me to see the hurt it caused him, not only because of that faithful public servant’s recall from office (by seven votes) but because the cause was perpetrated on those falsehoods.
My hat’s off to you and the Mike Kennedy’s of the world who subject yourselves to this abuse so you can better serve your communities, making them a better place for the rest of us to live.
greenlibertarian on February 05 at 11:32 a.m.
So why did Jeff go after Deanna?
-Christie
Jeff Ward has a continuous mean streak he’s barely able to hide, it’s pretty obvious.
He admits as such if you press him.
christiewood on February 05 at 11:32 a.m.
Thanks John. I have never met Mr. Ward. I have no doubt he is a person who cares about our community and Idaho in general but his tactics are unforgiveable. He does nothing to bring party members together in a positive way.
I lean republican on more issues than not so I choose the republican lable but identify more with the Phill Batt type of Republicans. The candiates and office holders that are true statesmen appeal to me.
JohnA on February 05 at 12:16 p.m.
I’m glad you mentioned Phil Batt, Christie, because he was the most effective lawmaker I’ve known. He was able to put aside politics, and even lifelong friendships, to further the state. HIs leadership in getting budget restrictions (to a max of 3% annually) was monumental in reigning in local governments. Then, he lost friends and colleagues alike when he insisted that migrant workers get the same benefits as all other workers. This from a long-time farmer himself.
I think all lawmakers could learn something valuable from Phil Batt. I hope they begin that process soon.
Dennis on February 05 at 12:46 p.m.
Don’t feel singled out Christie. Ward has been called out on his outrageous statements and flat out lies on numerous occasions. He has so far refused to acknowledge he was wrong let alone apologize.
I suppose you could look at it another way and consider his attack as a compliment. I mean heck, he wouldn’t have his BVD’s in such a knot if you weren’t so effective……. Right?
;-)
christiewood on February 05 at 2:34 p.m.
Dennis,
I appreciate your perspective. A compliment it is! I was in Boise last week and got an opportunity to visit with many of our northern delegation. The majority are there working hard every day to make the right choices.
I am very impressed with Shawn Keough and Erik Anderson. They are true conservatives not moderates, but that does not take away from their personal warmth, and genuine desire to serve all their consituents. I did not get to visit with George Eskridge this time around but he is also a class act.
Enjoy the big game today. We will be over eating all day long and surely suffer tomorrow.

I really don’t care who wins the Super Bowl, but am watching. The pre game was very inspiring. A guy and a gal sang ‘America the Beautiful’ and it was wonderful. Then, Kelly Clarkson sang the National Anthem and it gave me goose bumps. The presentation of the flag with the Marines and shots of our troops in Afghanistan watching was something all should see. Even you, Stickman. You missed something you would have enjoyed. :~)

“Then, Kelly Clarkson sang the National Anthem and it gave me goose bumps.”
And she got the words right. Unlike last year’s performance.
hmoffsuite on February 05 at 5:16 p.m.
I’m not much of a Madonna fan, but her halftime show was sensational, imo. The costumes and choreography incredible. And, the game is pretty good too. :~)
Arch_Druid on February 05 at 7:38 p.m.
I watched the Super Bowl, kind of. I am working on a filet crochet curtain for my new bedroom. I thought that Madonna was pretty good as well as far as her half time performance is concerned.
Some pretty funny ads, esp. the vampires biting the dust because of super bright head lights.

FYI - Governor Otter will be on the University of Idaho campus in Moscow today to talk about his IGEM initiative and to see the top-notch research going on in the College of Natural Resources and the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.
