Question: Bad sportsmanship from a Catholic university student body? Good fan tactic to get in heads of visiting St. Mary's players?

Uncalled for.

Can’t somebody force them to sit together, like at Obama’s State of the Union speech?

At Kansas, we in the student section would pretend to read newspapers when the visiting team was introduced. Maybe Catholic schools are expected to applaud politely, but antics during introductions are an accepted part of big-time basketball.

I’m with Bubble on this, it”s a game against the biggest rival, it’s not like they mooned them. The fans can’t play the game just support and this was fun support. I bet the St Mary’s team got a kick out of it.

The students do this at EVERY game when the opposing team is being introduced. They generally clap very softly and quickly during that time as a sarcastic way of inviting the other school.

Non-issue in this case. This kind of thing is common and hardly offensive or disrespectful.
