Screening Online Comments?

Sisyphus: "There’s lots of rubbish printed daily in the Letters to the Editor by people who may or may not be using their given names (i.e. Kage Mann) It’s a good analogy to comment boards. But comments like AIBs would never have been published because those letters are screened. Not sure why newspapers think they don’t need to put the same effort into their comment sections."

DFO: As you may know,  I was interviewed about online anonymity by NPR reporter Martin Kaste from Seattle Thursday. He asked me two questions that made me pause: Why don't you screen comments before they are posted? And: Why don't you post the rules for anonymous blogging at the top of your comments thread, so your posters would know full well that they're entirely responsible for their comments?

Question: Should I screen comments before they're posted?
