Blue Cross Tentative On Walgreen’s

Blue Cross of Idaho members: Don’t go rushing to Walgreens pharmacies just yet. The nation’s largest drugstore chain and pharmacy-benefit management company Express Scripts have resolved a year-long battle over payment issues. But Idaho’s largest health insurer hasn’t yet decided whether it will once again cover prescriptions filled at Walgreens stores. Spokeswoman Karen Early said a big factor is whether Walgreens stores will start charging higher dispensing fees for Express Scripts prescriptions, which would eventually push up the cost of insurance plans. She said 97 percent of Blue Cross of Idaho members had a different pharmacy within a half-mile of their local Walgreens store during the dispute, which Walgreens and Express Scripts settled last week with a multiyear agreement/Audrey Dutton, Idaho Statesman.
