Huckleberries Online

Thursday Wild Card 8.22.13

Dave is taking the next  couple days off for some much needed R&R time with family.

I don't mind blogsitting. I've been part of the HucksOnline family since I first became a Spokesman Review columnist way back in 2006 or so.

My mama graduated from Cda High School in 1949. My uncle and aunt still live in Hayden. My North Idaho roots go deep, though I'm very pleased to have made my home in Spokane since 1980.

Can I tell you what I don't like? I don't like it when detractors refer to HucksOnline as a "gossip blog". The news, links and info DFO provides here are invaluable and unprecedented.

Throughout the years there have been individuals who delight in posting malicious gossip on the blog. They are usually coolered quickly. Others seem to relish in trying to out folks who post anonymously.

I wonder at the pettiness of such folk. And though I'm supposed to be a jaded journalist, I'm still disappointed in such behavior.

Personally, I'd prefer that everyone post under their real name. That's what I've always done. But DFO has long-valued and defended those who wish to weigh in here anonymously. I further understand that pseudonyms offer many a voice, who might otherwise decline to participate in an online blog.

Of course, your thoughts may differ.

Here's your Wild Card.
