Mary Quits Coeur d’Alene Press

On May 31, Mary Souza used a waterfront setting to announce her candidacy in an unsuccessful bid for mayor, with backing of Councilman Dan Gookin. (Duane Rasmussen file photo)

Apparently, Mary Souza has canceled her Coeur d'Alene Press subscription after reading of negative online comments on the Press Web site (including 5 with pseudonyms) in response to her post-election op-ed column from her. In a recent newsletter, she adds this postscript:

I sent in this My Turn column last Wednesday.  The Press put it up online within hours, with a quick group of their fiercely negative attack bloggers commenting right away.  I ignored their nasty comments and said nothing. After the print edition came out on Friday, I emailed the Press circulation department to cancel our subscription. It felt good not to be supporting the poor journalistic integrity we saw during the campaign and after, and I haven't missed it one bit.  Complete newsletter here.

Question: Have you ever dropped a subscription to a newspaper because you were angry with an article of opinion piece?
