Legislature Offer Ed Listening Session

Sen. Bob Nonini, left center, and Rep. Ron Mendive, R-Coeur d'Alene, right center, are among the legislators who listened to a speaker during the education forum in Boise today. As chairman of the House Education Committee last year, Nonini joined Senate Education Committee Chairman John Goedde in ramrodding the Luna Laws through the Legislature. Voters solidly rejected the Luna Laws at the polls in November.

A pair of themes — charter school funding and proposed new limits on teachers unions — dominated a two-hour “listening session” where House and Senate Education Committee members Friday got an earful from the public. Of the roughly 200 people who attended the hearing in the Capitol's auditorium, many who spoke urged rejection of several pending bills seeking to give school boards more power when negotiating with teacher unions. On Nov. 6, voters dumped similar laws that were part of public schools chief Tom Luna's “Students Come First” overhaul/John Miller, AP (via Eye on Boise) More here.

Question: Do you think Sen. Bob Nonini will back the Son of Luna Laws legislation introduced this year?
