Lakeland Bus Crashes In Garwood

Shortly before 4 p.m. today, Kootenai County deputies responded to Rimrock Road, south of Corbin Hill Road, north of Hayden, for a school bus accident. The Lakeland School District bus, which was carrying 14 children, ages 13-17, was southbound on Rimrock Rd, when it failed to negotiate a curve on the snow/icy road and slid sideways. The bus driver, Debbie Page, 58, of Otis Orchards, Wash., was couldn't control of the bus, which slid into a tree on the rear passenger area. She estimated her speed at 5 MPH prior to the collision. Two children. ages 15 and 16, who were sitting in the rear of the bus, suffered soreness but were not transported to the hospital. The Lakeland School District notified the parents of the children and another bus picked them up at the scene an finished the route. No citations have been issued yet.
