July 10 marked 150 years since Gov. William H. Wallace arrived to assume leadership of the vast new territory. Wallace was a friend of President Abraham Lincoln. Establishing the Idaho Territory and designating Lewiston as its capital was part of the president’s plan to get gold for the Union war effort, said former Lt. Gov. David Leroy.
