Tom Hamilton (pictured) will be absent from tonight's school board meeting in Coeur d'Alene. The board chair told The Press he is taking this week's meeting off to be with his wife and daughters as they are dealing with a family crisis. Hamilton declined to comment further on the situation, and said a statement addressing his absence will likely be released at tonight's meeting. He asked that community members respect his family's privacy as they deal with this situation/Coeur d'Alene Press.
Hamilton told Scott Maben/SR moments ago: "It's related to a serious health matter with a member of my family."
Statement from Hamilton, circulated by School District this PM:
“It is with a heavy heart that I submit to you, my colleagues, my need to take time from my responsibilities as a member of the Board of Trustees due to a family crisis. I need to spend time with my family healing the issues and resolving the pain that my family is currently feeling. I ask that you give my family the privacy and space that I would give yours if the circumstances were impacting your children and your family. I am uncertain how much time my family needs but I need to be a father and a husband first and cannot devote the time and energy at this point, to do the job of trustee it deserves. Again, I ask you respect my family’s privacy during this painful process and I promise I will communicate with you any further decisions about the future of my position on the Board.”
