McEuen Contract OK’d On 4-3 Vote

Huckleberries hears from LCDC spokesman Keith Erickson that, moments ago, the Coeur d'Alene City Council approved the low bid of 14.8 million submitted by Dean Haagenson's Contractors Northwest to complete work on the McEuen Field upgrade. Mayor Sandi Bloem cast the tie-breaking vote after the council predictably split 3-3 on a motion to accept the bid. Council members Mike Kennedy, Deanna Goodlander and Woody McEvers supported the bid. Council members Ron Edinger, Dan Gookin and Steve Adams, who have consistently opposed the project, were on the losing minority side. The accepted bid included two alternates proposed for the project — a pavillion and a Front Avenue promenade. The council also voted 4-3 to approve an amendment to its agreement with the Lake City Development Corp. to provide an additional $4,124,800 in funds for the park project.
