Blast From Past: Lake City Sr. Center

From my newspaper files, a story I wrote 25 years ago (Feb. 5, 1988) re: the projected St. Patrick's Day 1988 opening of the Lake City Senior Center:

Lake City Senior Center officials will stage a grand opening for their new center on St. Patrick's Day with a little help from their friends at City Hall. In fact, the seniors may be able tomove into the spacious new center in the Ironwood Business District before March 17 if they can obtain a temporary occupancy permit from the city. At the meeting between LCSC representatives and the City Council on Wednesday, the seniors also asked the city for in-kind services to help them complete their parking lot, and waiver of $10,537 in building permit and hookup fees. "This is going to be the finest senior center in the whole Northwest area," predicted center board Chairman Earl Hansen. "It won't be unlike the resort on the lake. People are going to travel here just to view it."

  • DFO: Can you think of a better name for this feature than Blast from the Past?

Question: What was the last event you attended at the Lake City Senior Center?
