Candidate Decries ‘Evil’ Fund-raising

Christi Fleischman announces her intentions to no longer solicit campaign contributions for the remainder of the race. The announcement came last Friday via the Christi for Post Falls Facebook page. Fleischman wrote, “After prayer and consideration, I have decided to stop soliciting campaign donations. I feel that our community has many other important people and organizations that need our help. I will not win this City Council seat with a larger campaign budget but I will win it because of my experience and professionalism. If you were thinking about donating to my campaign, thank you. But I urge you to seek out a local cause that needs the funds and donate! I will walk-the-walk and be fiscally responsible as well as creative in the remainder of my campaign. Thank you to all of you who have already donated -- your support means the WORLD to me. I will stretch every last penny and make you all proud!” From the beginning of her candidacy, Christi has been torn by the necessary evil of campaign fundraising/Shavaun Reed, campaign manager for Fleischman. More here.

Question: Are campaign contributions a "necessary evil," as Fleischman maintains?
