Another Look At Mary’s Firing

Earlier this week, I linked to the "Truth Page" on Mary Souza's campaign Web page in which she explains her side to her 2007 firing from the city planning commission. Huckleberries has obtained a letter written to the mayor and City Council by John Bruning, who was chairing the commission at the time. In the letter of Nov. 16, 2007, Bruning listed three reasons to ask that Souza be removed from the planning commission. The letter lists conflicts of interest on Souza's part, actions at commission meetings, and partiality. Here is one of the concerns:

"Another issue is her unprofessional behavior in a public forum. On March 27, 2007, Tony Berns made a presentation to the Commission regarding LCDC. Mr. Berns was invited to give the Commission at update on LCDC activities and future plans. Souza's disdain for LCDC has been well documented in her weekly Coeur d'Alene Press column. Souza used Mr. Berns' appearance as an occasion not to ask questions, but to reiterate her own opinions about LCDC. She repeatedly interrupted Mr. Berns and fellow members of the Planning Commission in a rude and argumentative tone." Bruning's full letter here. (Photo: Duane Rasmussen)
