KCSO Investigates Athol City Case

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into the alleged embezzlement of public funds from the City of Athol. Recently, the City of Athol entered into a contract for a forensic audit to be conducted of their accounts. Until this audit is complete, an accurate dollar loss amount is still unknown. Former City Clerk, Sally R. Hansen has been listed as a person of interest in this case. Detectives have confirmed that she is no longer in the area. Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office received a letter on July 11th from a Coeur d’Alene legal firm advising that they have been retained as counsel for Ms. Hansen and that she “will be exercising her right to remain silent.” Detectives are continuing to work closely with Athol Mayor, Darla Kuhman to further this investigation/Lt. Stu Miller, KCSO.
