In the Arfee shooting investigation thread, Randy Meyers details changes he'd like so see happen within the CdA police department.
"In the nearly 25 years I have been here the department has crept towards militarization. A reorganization of responsibilities and command structure is likely needed. An organizational review by an independent team of experts. Some policy changes like a certain amount of time on the job before a firearm is issued. Instead of a gun and a badge maybe a badge and a taser and billy club for starters. Better screening of potential hires so that hires end up being that people who respond to crisis with agression are minimized and people who respomd more cool headedly are maximized. I think a citizen board that meets with CPD command regularly would be great. An empasis more on walking and biking officers and less on patrol cars. Just overall better communication from CPD to citizens. The Arfee incident is a perfect illustration of the need for this."
Do you agree or disagree? Is there anything you'd like to see change?
