Times News: Tithing To The NRA

Lawmakers really want college students carrying concealed weapons on campus. And, judging by Wednesday’s kangaroo court of a hearing, they’re willing to discount every voice of dissent to appease the all-powerful National Rifle Association. A slew of police chiefs and college presidents from around the state descended on the Capitol, intending to tell the state Senate State Affairs Committee that state Sen. Curt McKenzie, R-Nampa, was pushing a wrong-headed, potentially deadly bill that would permit anyone with an enhanced conceal and carry permit to pack heat. Instead, McKenzie let the bill hearing become an NRA rally, permitting the powerful pro-gun lobbying group 40 minutes of “testimony.” Those police chiefs and college presidents? Yeah, they were told to keep their mouths shut/Twin Falls Times News Editorial Page. More here.
