New Year's holiday poll: Hucks Nation selected the Coeur d'Alene municipal and school elections as the top story of 2013. 114 of 285 respondents (40%) selected the two elections, in which moderates easily defeated partisan Republican candidates. 79 of 285 respondents (27.72%) selected the reconstruction of McEuen Field (which is still under way) as the top story. Other important stories receiving votes were: the anti-discrimination ordinance passed by the city of Coeur d'Alene, 32 of 285 (11.23%); return of hydroplane racing (20 votes, 7.02%); ULUC rejection & death of County Clerk Cliff Hayes (16 votes apiece, 5.61%); and other (8 votes, 2.81%).
