Jeers: Nevada Casinos ♥ Otter

In his weekly Cheers & Jeers column, Marty Trillhaase of the Lewiston Tribune opinion page offers jeers to Gov. Butch Otter:

Last week, the Idaho Statesman's Dan Popkey pored over Otter's latest campaign report. Among the $686,000 haul for the last six months was $60,000 from Nevada gaming interests:

  • Casino operators Steve Wynn, Wynn's wife Andrea, Frank Fertitta III and Lorenzo Fertitta each wrote Otter a $10,000 check -- the most Idaho's law permits them to contribute.
  • Wynn Resorts and Station Casinos also gave the limit.

Otter's on record opposing online gaming in Idaho. But he's outraising GOP challenger Russ Fulcher by nearly 3-to-1. Does he need money this badly? Full Cheers & Jeers column here.

Question: Do you see a problem with Nevada casinos dropping $60,000 into Gov. Butch Otter's campaign warchest?
