Grenade Found In Spokane River

At about 12:05 p.m. today, a diver, who was working for Avista Utilities on the south channel dam repairs, located a suspicious device on the bottom of the Spokane River but couldn't tell what it was, at first, due to visibility. It appeared to be a rusted grenade. Kootenai County deputies responded to the scene and agreed the device may be an old grenade.  Later, the Spokane County bomb squad said the device appeared to be an altered training grenade.  The Spokane County Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team destroyed the device.
