"We talk about being rattlesnake aware hiking in the Foothills and on desert trails, but on a (Boise) sidewalk? I was taking the dog for an evening walk tonight (June 24), and almost stepped on this critter. It was going to try to make it across the street, but twirled around and zipped up on the sidewalk. The rule when it comes to a rattler is let it be. That worked. It finally settled down and slowly crawled down the street and into some brush where it couldn't get to people walking their dogs. Snake experts are saying that people are seeing a lot more rattlesnakes this summer. That's OK in the hills where you expect them. But, not on a city sidewalk"/Pete Zimowsky, Idaho Statesman. Question: have you ever had a close encounter with a rattlesnake?
