State Rep. Luke Malek, R-Coeur d'Alene, has released the following statement to Huckleberries Online re: Guns on Campus:
I will be supporting SB 1254 because I believe in a right of the individual to protect her or himself. This well-drafted and narrowly-tailored bill will allow those who have demonstrated responsibility in training with a firearm to keep themselves from harm. I cannot fathom a vote against a bill that recognizes both that right and responsibility. While I greatly respect and prefer local control, when the practical effect of local control is an infringement on individual rights, that overreach of power is just as detrimental as an overreach from any other level of government. As always, I appreciate the diverse views of those who have reached out to me on this issue, and encourage those who would like to know more about my decision to reach out to me.
Question: Luke Malek or Chico Schindelbeck?
