Nothing Said RE: Whalen DUI, Email

The Elephant in the Room wasn't addressed at the Pachyderm Club luncheon at Templin's Resort in Post Falls today. Neither Sen. Bob Nonini nor Rep. Pat Whalen mentioned the bomb shell dropped by Whalen last night at the chamber forum in North Idaho College, that Whalen was convicted of a DUI 8 years ago. Additionally, Whalen told the audience, as reported, in the Coeur d'Alene Press last night that Nonini's wife, Cathyanne, had contacted the national Boys & Girls Club to ask that the organization look into the matter. (A copy of Mrs. Nonini's inquiry to the regional director was published earlier today on HucksOnline.) Whalen is chairman of the local organization's Board of Governors. Nonini and Whalen answered questions about using federal grants to expand the Post Falls wastewater treatment plant. Job creation. And the importance of federal dollars coming to Idaho. Rep. Ron Mendive, R-Coeur d'Alene, and his challenger, Terry Werner, also were part of the discussion. The best moment of the forum occurred when the cell phone of Mendive's wife chimed the Pachelbel Canon while he was speaking.
