County mulls refugee resolution 23 

Kootenai County is expected to have a voice on government record should refugee resettlement occur here. County commissioners are expected to approve at Tuesday's business meeting at 2 p.m. a resolution ensuring that, if resettlement occurs, the federal government will fund such activity so the financial burden does not fall on local taxpayers.

Motive sought in SoCal massacre

Investigators hunted for a motive in the backgrounds of a husband and wife suspected in a shooting rampage that left 14 dead and 17 others wounded, while federal agents traced the origins of the four guns recovered from the suspects — at least two of them bought legally. The suspects, identified as Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, and Tashfeen Malik, 27.

Democrats: Prayers are not enough 82 

Democrats are scolding their Republican colleagues for not backing up their calls for "thoughts and prayers" with real action that could curb the gun violence plaguing the United States. As Americans are still trying to make sense of Wednesday's massacre in San Bernardino, California, Democratic voices are saying enough with the platitudes.

Pair left baby w/grandma before attack 

On Wednesday morning, Syed Rizwan Farook and his wife, Tashfeen Malik, left their 6-month-old daughter with Farook’s mother, telling her they were going to a doctor’s appointment. By nightfall, it was clear that was a ruse, as police said the couple spent the day carrying out a rampage at a social services center that killed at least 14 people.
